The non-obligation of qurbani in Eid al Zuha
Yearly reminder that slaughtering an animal on Baqrid is NOT compulsory in any Islamic school of thought (maslak) except for Hanafis, even if you have the required money.
As per the majority opinion, it's a confirmed sunnah, but not farz.
But so confident are our Indian maulanas in the correctness of their school, that in 99% of the cases, they wouldn't even bother to tell the masses that there are different (but equally valid) opinions in Islam.
It might not matter to you, but for the less well-off, the expenses in qurbani can be upto 2 months of income or more. Which they'll forced to pay because everyone told them that it's an essential part of Islam and not doing so will get them burnt in hell.
Yes, even in Hanafis, there's the provision of skipping slaugter if you don't have the means, but "having means" is always a subjective thing. Pious people would always err on the side of caution and perform the sacrifice, instead of paying for the same in the Hereafter.
Also, the notion that you should follow a single school of thought in it's entirety (which was selected for you at birth) is entirely made-up nonsense, designed to perpetuate the hegemony of those schools.
So, celebrate the festival however you wish, but be aware (and make others aware) that the associated sacrifice is entirely optional as per the majority of Islamic schools
